In a word: gallant

In a sentence: Taran Assistant Pigkeeper embarks on a sweeping voyage to discover who he is and what it means to be a man.
Synopsis: The five books of the Chronicles of Prydain each hold their own quest and together illustrate Taran's growth from boy to manhood. Taran and his group of friends come together time and again in the battle against evil in Prydain.
Reactions: This is a series from my youth. I rediscovered The Chronicles of Prydain while in search of a good adventure in my bookshelf.
Upon my return to Prydain I rediscovered beloved characters from my childhood including softhearted Gurgi, spunky Princess Eilonwy, surly Doli, and the dorky bard Fflewdur Flam. What I didn't know when I was young though was that many of these individuals are actually derived from famous Welsh lore from the Mabinogion, adding new perspective to my reading.
Like the protagonists is many coming of age tales, Taran begins his journey as a headstrong youth seeking only heroism and fame. Over the five books of the Chronicles, he learns love from his friends, caution from his losses, and perseverance from his quests. A refreshing depiction of personal growth.
Read if: you enjoy a classic fantasy coming of age tale with a unique Welsh flavor.
